Panel lift Doors
Panel lift or sectional garage doors are the most common type on the market today. These are the garage doors that open “up” following tracks vertically and then horizontally and rest open and parallel with your ceiling, with the garage door achieving full clearance.
Roller Doors
Roller doors are another popular type of garage door. These roll up into a housing above the garage door opening or head room and are much more compact. This allows for storage hung from the ceiling or special lighting if the garage is to be converted into an extra room.
Tilt Garage Doors
Tilt garage doors are a good solution when the garage has no head room or pipe work suspended from the ceiling which could obstruct a panel lift garage door, or when the clearance height needs to be maximised.
Other types of garage doors exist as well, but most are variations on these basic types.
In most cases, any of these types of garage doors will serve its purpose, but occasionally, your options will be limited. For example, if you must park your car very close to the door before you open it, your garage door options are probably limited to roller or sectional garage doors. Any type of hinged or Tilt garage door requires a minimum amount of swinging space and if the door is going to be opened manually, even more space is required.
